Martyn, chair of New North, brings over 40 years’ expertise in the Financial Services sector, specialising in risk, governance and strategic management.
Until retiring in June 2015, Martyn was Partner and Chief Operating Officer at Genesis Investment Management, responsible for operations, governance, and finance, managing teams in multiple international locations. Genesis, founded in 1989, grew into one of the largest investors in emerging market equities, with US$38bn in assets under management at his departure in 2015. Martyn joined in 1994 and played an integral role in the development of the firm, leading global operating functions and managing the firm’s buyout from founding shareholders in partnership with Affiliated Managers Group (www.amg.com) in 2004.
Since 2015, Martyn has cultivated a portfolio of non-executive and consulting positions, contributing to financial services, the not-for-profit sector, and angel investments. He is Chair of the Trustees of the Welsh National Opera Pension Fund, serves as a trustee of the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust, and sits on the Audit and Risk Committee of the University of Southampton. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Martyn completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
